C'mon baby light my fire...

There comes a time...very rare...

But there comes a time where I discover food for the soul. That day is today. And the meal comes in the form of  Szjerdene
What a breath of fresh air. It's like the first time I heard Put Your Records On.  Like when I first heard Quadron. Like the first time I heard Zero7's Likufanele. Thanks to Szjerdene, I'm full. Soulful. Hahahaha... Sorry, had to. And no, dear reader I'm not name-dropping like some music snob. This is what I'd call good shit. Google and tell me if I'm wrong and point me in the right direction.
Eat, damnit!

Then there's Wildbirds & Peacedrums. Dear reader, grab a bottle of whatever makes you happy, get a cushion...the big ones...throw it on the floor and crank this up. WB&PD reminds me of Nina Simone in some strange way. It's refreshing, in the same way that Gothic chants would be.

On that note, Wawa and Jub Jub would say 'Peace out!'

Scrambled Easter Eggs on Toast

The Easter weekend is upon us. What bullshit! No, I'm not saying the holy of all holies is bullcrap. All I'm saying is that just like Xmas we'll now be bombarded by more bullshit that we're expected to buy for friends and family. E. Fucking G: Chocolatey Easter Eggs and morning shoes with bunny ears. Shit like that. It's really irritating as you cannot go anywhere without bumping into people selling you chocolatey shit. Geddit? Chocolatey... you get it...

What I do appreciate though is time off work. Even though I have nothing planned. I promise you young reader, I shall. Yes, all my readers are young. Both of you. So, cheers to you. Enjoy your free time from work.
Peace out!

Walk the Walk!

They say clothes maketh the man. While I kinda disagree with that statement, I also, sorta, kinda agree with it. Hey, I'm Libran, I can agree to disagree with myself!
Anyhoo, there's something that should be said about a man and his shoes. In particular, his sneakers. The fresher they are, the more 'cool' you have. Now, there are lots of sneaks that kids today love. They are almost always loud and complex in their designs. Ain't that what being young is all about? For a man of a 'certain age', there are sneaks that just won't do. However, there are times when you need to step out into the world with something 'fresh'. Y'know that '1st Day of Spring' typa feeling! That's what I'm talking about.
I almost used the term 'swag'. Kusale kancaaaaane!
BBC Ice Cream - Hi-cut drippy sneakers

Anyway, where was I going with this? Oh, sneakers and swag... If you're going to do it. Step out ie. Do it big. Do it in style. Represent for us grown folk and kick these kids to the curb!

#Now Playing

I know I promised to write more about music than anything else, but as you know when life gives you a banana, you make lemonade.

Anyway, today I felt like listening to something ‘warm’, y’know that ‘feel good’, food-for-the-soul typa jam...

So, I went to the 1st lady of all things soulful. Ms Erykah Badu. I remember the first time I heard her sang. I was walking up Tsubaki St; Dube – Soweto. A neighbour had MetroFM on full-blast. That’s how it’s done on a Saturday, when you’re spring cleaning your house. Anything else would just be Sandton.

Anyway, Badu was on a Glen Lewis show on Metro. And he dropped that joint ‘On and On’.  Maaaaaaaaaaaaannnn… what a track. There was nothing like it on radio. It felt like I was being gently caressed by the sun.
Many years later, Erykah has gone through life’s challenges, shot a video buck naked – to make a point. And this is where we find her.  I would call Tyrone, but umm…he in gaol. Kwaaaaaaaa!

Enjoy. Support.

Why the silence?

 Heya there reader,

I thought I'd pop in and tell you what I've been up to. Like you care. hahahaha... Well, I've been out in the streets chasing my dreams. And in my travels, I've met really cool people like Dineo Ranaka. Got to spend some time with her at the top of the Soweto Towers - bungee jumping. Crazy, right?  There was popular DJ Sbu and of course the all-knowing, all-powerful, all-humble Oskido – who continues to raise his kids the right way… the old skool way… I met the beautiful Simone Harris, editor of Hype Magazine, got a fresh 16 bars from Ginger Breadman. Met Thapelo Mokoena - Director of the movie Skyf - coming out on the 21st April by the by. Go out, support it.
These are young people doing their thang! Motivating an old toppie like myself to not give up. I now realise I can still do what I like. And I like this. ‘This’. Will tell you more once we're done. Still cooking.

 For now,
Lights, Camera, Peace.
